Unit Overview: Welcome
to unit 2! Second marking period
students examine different pieces of literature throughout American history. Many
argue that although we have elected our first black president, there are still
many obstacles to overcome. Students will examine and analyze how literature
enables audiences to develop an understanding of the struggles and achievements
of African Americans though different time periods, from slave narratives to
modern day struggles. These writings
will include articles from the past, such as Jim Crow America to current issues
such as the challenges of the first African American president and issue like
the “Stop and Frisk” program”. At the
end of the unit, students will write an analytical piece and take a summative assessment for their midterm
exam.
